Corrosion Protection that Really Works
The inside of an oil tank is like a small chemical factory. Many different reactions are taking place simultaneously. Some of these chemical reactions are attacking the tank itself.
Water is the primary culprit. Condensation from the air inside the tank creates water droplets which settle to the tank bottom. Over time, this moisture combines with chemicals in the fuel oil to produce acids. In addition, a sludge residue of small particles from the oil and rust from the metal builds up on the bottom of the tank. These components - water, acids and sludge - react chemically to attack the steel tank wall, primarily by electrolysis.
A liquid corrosion inhibitor is the most effective tool in combating corrosion inside oil tanks. We know from practical experience that metallic cathodic devices that are dropped into tanks are ineffective.
Liquid TANK-GUARD is formulated specifically for use in fuel oil tanks. It is a concentrate that is heavier than fuel oil. It goes to the bottom of the tank and reacts only with moisture and acids (i.e. not with the oil). It neutralizes acidity and shields the inside of the tank bottom with a molecular film to reduce rusting and electrolytic pitting. Annual treatment with TANK-GUARD can result in longer tank life and fewer service problems.
TANK-GUARD is safe and easy to install. Just pour the contents of one bottle down the fill pipe once a year during a regular delivery service call. If TANK-GUARD should be carried through the oil line to the burner, it will simply be burned with no harmful consequences.
Laboratory tests have shown that TANK-GUARD is effective in preventing corrosion in the oil tank environment. It fights corrosion in new as well as older tanks. Thus, it offers a valuable benefit to all customers, regardless of the age of their tanks.
Even if your fuel oil is treated with an additive that includes corrosion inhibitors, you still need TANK-GUARD to protect the most vulnerable part of an oil tank - the bottom. It is important to remember that the oil floats above the water based sludge at the bottom, so oil based additives can't reach the real problem area. But TANK-GUARD mixes only with the water on the bottom where it can provide real benefit.
TANK-GUARD is backed by Lincoln Laboratory's 50 years of experience and service to the oil heat industry. Its effectiveness has been proven by thousands of fuel oil dealers from coast to coast.
